Despite being ensconced in a corrugated-iron shed at Penny’s Hill cellar door, this is a surprisingly serious lunchtime venue. And it’s no ordinary shed. Indoors you’re met by smartly dressed tables, polished floors and picture windows overlooking paddocks and vines. With a confident focus on seasonal and regional produce, the menu is suitably brief. The flavours are typically rustic and earthy, as evidenced by their braised lamb neck, and chicken rotolo with black truffle. There’s also the excellent option of a five-course tasting selection, each married with wines crafted by winemaker Ben Riggs.
