Wilpena Pound Campground

This is the main hub for visitors and bushwalkers exploring Wilpena Pound. The extensive facilities, easy access to the nearby resort and the magnificent river red gums along Wilpena Creek make this a very popular haunt – accordingly, it pays to book for holiday stays Apr–Oct. Follow the signs off Wilpena Rd, 52 km north of Hawker. A park entrance fee applies.There is good access to walking tracks from here, including the strenuous but rewarding climb up Mt Ohlssen Bagge, as well as easier trails along Wilpena Creek and into Wilpena Pound itself. Another pleasant activity is a walk around the well-preserved buildings of Old Wilpena Homestead, which is only a short drive from the campground.
