The North Star Hotel

Thanks to a radical makeover, the oldest pub in the Flinders Ranges – established in 1854 – has been reinvigorated as a smart boutique-style hotel. Behind its classic stone facade, the hotel’s four principal rooms are now smartly decked out with earthy colours and luxury fittings. Each is equipped with a new en-suite bathroom. Quirkier stopover options include a retro-styled cottage next door and, for something completely different, two cabins out the back are built on the decks of old trucks. The same offbeat bush ingenuity carries through to the public spaces, including the lively bar, restaurant and outdoor deck.
