William Creek Hotel camping area
Dating from 1887, William Creek’s classic timber-and-iron hotel is an SA outback legend – with an interior like no other. The camping area is tucked among scattered trees in the grounds behind the pub; bring your own firewood. William Creek is 202 km south of Oodnadatta.

This rambling overland track follows the historic route of the old Ghan Railway from Marree to Marla on the Stuart Hwy. Highlights of this classic track include the outback outposts of William Creek, Coward Springs and Oodnadatta, the ochre pits near Lyndhurst, the ruined railway siding at Farina, the Strangways Telegraph Station ruins, the mound springs of Blanche Cup and The Bubbler at the Wabma Kadarbu Conservation Park near Coward Springs. There is plenty of history to explore in these arid expanses, and in good conditions it’s accessible to conventional vehicles.
