Bush camping areas
Self-sufficient bush camping (permit required) is permitted anywhere within 50 m of public access tracks. Given the impact of desert wind and sun, low-lying areas with the shade of gidgee woodlands are recommended. Be aware of other vehicles when driving, and bring your own wood and water (and preferably a gas/fuel stove).

This campsite is located in Simpson Desert Regional Reserve and Conservation Park
Straddling the borders of SA, Qld and the NT, this colossal expanse of dune-field desert – the world’s largest – covers more than 3 million ha. It’s home to some of the least visited terrain on the continent, and is a treasury of desert plants and wildlife. In recent years, desert crossings have become a popular excursion for experienced and well-equipped 4WD convoys. Note: parts of the park close from Dec to mid-Mar. All vehicles require a safety flag. Contact the reserve for more information.
