Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park
Hiking and walking
Many sites in the rugged Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park are only suitable for serious bushwalkers looking for a multi-day, trackless hike. For other visitors, there are a few marked trails to enjoy in cooler weather. At the top of the list is the 5‑kilometre walk from Lochness Well along a creek bed to Bunyip Chasm, where towering walls of rock converge into a dark cleft. Two other walks from Grindells Hut lead to a permanent spring and rockpools at Weetootla Gorge (19 kilometres return), or to Italowie Gorge with a possible side trip up 1050 metre Mount McKinlay (a rigorous 16 kilometres one-way). You can camp overnight at Italowie.
