Secluded self-sufficient camping here on the park’s northern fringe is a good kick-off point for exploring Mainwater Pound. Signposted access is 18.5 km along Idninna Rd from the Mt Serle–Yankaninna Rd. Alternative access from the east is provided via Wortupa Loop Rd. Access is 4WD only, but suitable for off-road camper trailers; check track conditions with the park office.

This campsite is located in Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park

The heart of this majestic wilderness park – a stronghold of Adnyamathanha culture – is an isolated 1000 m plateau fortified by rugged peaks and ravines. While this inner sanctum is the preserve of experienced wilderness walkers, there are many fine walks, drives and campsites on the plateau’s fringes. The park headquarters are at Balcanoona, 100 km east of Leigh Creek along the Copley–Balcanoona Rd. Access for conventional vehicles is limited.
