Where to Eat
Take a tour of this modern marron farm, just north of Vivonne Bay, home of Kangaroo Island’s famed freshwater crayfish. This bright and breezy cafe serves ultra-fresh marron with simple, tasty sauces, many tweaked with native herbs grown on the farm. Depending on the season you’ll find other island produce, like barramundi, kangaroo and lamb, on the specials board. It’s a relaxed setting that also tempts travellers with good coffee and luscious cakes. The property is also the vineyard and cellar door for Two Wheeler Creek Wines.

Part of the Kangaroo Island Seafront Resort, Sorrento’s well-appointed dining room and adjacent terrace are close to the ferry and enjoy fine ocean views across Investigator Strait. Local oysters, squid, crab and King George Whiting feature here, and the seafood platter for two is a ‘big night out’ by any measure. However, the menus are well constructed to include other options like rustic lamb and beef dishes, as well as lighter salads and tapas for grazing outdoors over a bottle of island wine.

This is the quintessential seafront kiosk, with laid-back, alfresco-style dining. Stokes Bay is one of the prettiest spots on the island’s north coast, with a fun ‘hole in the wall’ you pass through en route to a glorious swimming beach. This humble cafe does its share of takeaways and ice-creams but you can also settle in for relaxed meal and a glass of local island wine. Seafood – naturally – is their specialty but the menu does stretch to pasta dishes and other fare.
