Murray River National Park

From the South Australian border near Renmark, the Murray River flows through Murray River National Park. The park includes Bulyong Island, Lyrup Flats and Katarapko. The latter is the largest area of the three with a mosaic of permanent and semi-permanent wetlands. Between Blanchetown and Bow Hill there is about 70 kilometres of river that passes through sections of striking, tall red cliffs. Big Bend, south of Swan Reach, is particularly stunning with a steep, red wall dropping into the river. Access to the Murray here is south of Barmera. There are many campsites along the river, with shady sites under river red gums, and cliffs to kayak beside.
