Tiparra Rocks camping area, Paul Smedley

This is the first of 3 coastal-reserve camping areas, 4 km north of the seaside settlement of Balgowan. A crust of vivid red cliffs marks the edge of the peninsula south of this site. You’ll find lots of solitude here, plus ready access to swimming, fishing and the sandy point just north of the camp. Boats can be launched from the beach.

This campsite is located in Yorke Peninsula Reserves

At this broad array of coastal camping spots looked after by Yorke Peninsula’s local council, there’s a terrific selection of sites on all points of the compass. While they have few, if any, facilities, the bush locations are usually close to beach views and fishing spots – as well as being quiet and secluded. You need to be pretty self-sufficient, bringing your own firewood and water. You also need a permit (from the council office, or on sale in many local shops).
