The bar in the Furneaux Tavern has one of the best views in Australia. It looks out over island-dotted Franklin Sound, a picturesque wild vista of ocean and rocky headlands that’s breathtakingly beautiful in any weather. The adjoining fine-dining restaurant has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, with an open fireplace and soaring, high-vaulted ceilings. This is one of the few places to dine on the island, and not surprisingly it specialises in locally caught seafood, which you can enjoy with a glass of chilled wine or beer selected from their comprehensive wine list. If you prefer your seafood even fresher, wander down to Lady Barron Wharf and buy crayfish, scallops and abalone direct from the commercial fishers.
