Surrounding 3 granite hills on the island’s eastern flanks, the forests, lagoons and swamps of this sanctuary offer unspoilt wildlife habitat and a chance to get to know Flinders Island’s unique animals. Access is 6 km east along Lees Rd from Lackrana Rd. Attractions include fantastic nature walks and spotting the refuge’s wallabies, wombats and Cape Barren geese. The refuge is lovingly cared for by the Friends of the Patriarchs and donations to their cause are appreciated. There is a heated A-frame camp shelter but you will need to bring your own drinking water and firewood, and take care as the access track can be boggy after rain.
