Interstate Hotel

In the centre of tiny Whitemark, this 100-year-old hotel is a family-run country pub with good budget accommodation and a bar where the talk is local and the pace easygoing. Upstairs, the heritage-style rooms – which sleep from one to four, some with ensuites and TVs – open onto a long verandah with views along the coast to the granite peaks of Strzelecki Ranges National Park. A cooked breakfast is served in the dining room downstairs, and there are bistro counter meals most days for lunch and dinner, with the Saturday-night pub roast a particular favourite.
