The Fingal Hotel
There’s no doubt this charming old sandstone hotel would have a few good stories to tell. Built in the convict period of the 1840s, it has seen Tasmania’s first gold rush come and go and, in keeping with the town’s name, is reputed to have the largest collection of Scotch whiskies in the Southern Hemisphere. There is basic pub-style accommodation with a continental breakfast included, and counter meals are served seven days a week. Inside, there’s nothing special about the decor – it’s a typical country pub – but the surrounding pastoral scenery and distant mountains are spectacular.
