St Marys Hotel
For almost 100 years the long wide verandahs of this grand old corner hotel have looked out over the main intersection in St Marys, from where the convict-built roads north and south wind through steep mountain passes to the coast. The hotel is the centrepiece of St Marys and its footpath picnic tables are a popular spot for locals watching the world go by. These days this refurbished hotel has 16 no-frills ensuite rooms at a no-frills tariff. The upstairs verandah is a great vantage point over the town, but if you tire of watching the traffic there are two downstairs bars – one with gaming facilities – which both serve very good country pub meals in convivial company.
