Kate’s Berry Farm
Kate’s is an irresistibly sinful must-stop on any tour of the east coast, even if it’s nowhere near afternoon tea time. Off the highway, up on a little hill with views all the way to Freycinet, her bountiful small fruits farm produces delectable desserts. You have to admire her: she planted every vine and cane, built the house, shop and, most importantly, the kitchen, which produces her wonderful sauces, jams and sensational ice-cream. There are Devonshire teas, crisp Belgian waffles drenched in poached berries, and sticky fruit tarts made with every berry you can think of, from youngberries to Himalayan blackberries. The chocolate strawberry cheesecake is pure heaven.
