Although the name means ‘baby salmon’, Smolt offers a wide range of dishes with Mediterranean flavours befitting its piazza outlook and hip modern interior. The space is large, with floor-to-ceiling windows flooding light over the simple wooden tables and curved timber walls. Dining here can be late night ‘small plates’, a gourmet lunch or traditional dinners of entrées followed by mains. Expect spatchcock, sword fish, octopus, lamb, veal and, of course, salmon, all cooked simply and expertly with Italian and Spanish flavours. Start with the superb in-house baked bread with oil and balsamic dip, and finish with a trio of rhubarb, vanilla and quince ice-creams while you watch the comings and goings in Salamanca Square.
