This 1880s mansion and its cottages are in one of Hobart’s most charming hillside suburbs. Choose from the convict-built Servant’s Quarters, with its hand-sawn floorboards and claw-foot bath; the Coach House, which was originally both coach house and stables, and retains its original slate roof and pressed-metal ceilings; or the cosy Gardeners Cottage with its oak beams and pit-sawn timbers. They all have lovely antiques with mod cons cleverly hidden away. The garden has plants over 100 years old and it is so lovely that the ABC’s now-retired gardening treasure Peter Cundall was moved to describe it as ‘exhilarating and enchanting’.
