Monty’s on Montpelier
This intimate restaurant in Battery Point serves a regularly changing menu of modern European food amid a welcoming homely clutter of bookshelves and lovely open fires. Dishes are skilful, high-quality makeovers of traditional favourites. Expect that Tasmanian icon – the scallop pie – here crammed to bursting with perfect tender scallops, or a delicate lemon-scented seafood tortellini with truffle oil and reggiano cheese. The steak main course is excellent, inviting diners to select from three of Tasmania’s premium producers, including King Island. There are desserts well worth saving room for but those in the know have the cheese platter – it’s one of the chef’s specialties. Attentive service and a wine list featuring international and Tasmanian labels complete the picture.
