The Drunken Admiral
This dockside seafood restaurant is crammed with nautical memorabilia, enclosing diners in cosy nooks surrounded by bits and pieces mounted on the walls and dangling from the ceiling. The maritime clutter is deliberately tacky but worth putting up with for the fantastic seafood. Start with their seafood chowder, a menu staple since they opened in 1979, or a stack of hot smoked oysters encased in paperbark. The sizzling Yachties mixed grill is fresh seafood at its best and the steamed mussels – a whole kilo, no less – tossed with tomatoey garlic wine sauce and served with a crusty roll and aioli will satisfy the hungriest seafarer. The desserts are just as over the top.
