When convict Joseph Solomon built this bakery in 1838 to supply bread for the settlers around Evandale it was built to last. These days it’s no longer producing crusty wood-fired loaves but instead has been reborn as a cosy two-bedroom B&B. Joseph’s sturdy oven is now the main bedroom, with a gorgeous queen-size brass bed, and his bakery – now Solomons Cottage – offers very comfortable accommodation in the shady private grounds of historic Solomon House. There’s a tennis court and a barbecue area, and in the morning a breakfast feast – toast, eggs, bacon, sausages, tomato, fruit and yoghurt – will be delivered to your door.
