George Town

The historic settlement of George Town is near the entrance to the Tamar River. At the entrance itself is Low Head, which features a lighthouse and a colony of little penguins. Tours to see the penguins returning to their burrows start around sunset (0418 361 860). From George Town, cruises are also available to the 1000-strong colony of Australian fur seals on Tenth Island in Bass Strait ((03) 6382 3452).
