This is an out-of-the-way corner of Tasmania and the accommodation is very limited, as most people just pass through on their way to seaside shacks or campgrounds in nearby Mount William National Park. The Gladstone Hotel is a small country pub and they have accommodation but it’s about as basic as you can get. There are six bedrooms with electric blankets – a necessity in winter – and shared bathroom facilities. In your room you’ll find a TV and tea and coffee-making facilities, but in a place like this your best bet is to spend a while in the bar around the wood heater enjoying a meal, a beer and local company.
