Among tall trees along the Lake Sorell foreshore there are about 100 gloriously secluded camping spots. It is more than likely you’ll be the only one here, with just a few fishing lodges for company. There’s plenty of firewood, a water tank, playground and toilet facilities, but the showers are closed due to ‘lack of camper demand’ and there are no shops at all in the area. To get here, head to tiny Interlaken, 28 km from both the Midland and Lake highways, and the campground is 300 m from the turn-off, signposted on the unsealed C527.
