JJs Bakery and Old Mill Cafe
Since it was built by convicts in 1853 as the Emerald Flour Mill, this place has been a grain, skin and wool store, and soap factory. But don’t let that deter you. It was transformed into a bakery in 1989 and hasn’t looked back since, winning the grand champion breadmakers award – the first of many – just a few years later. Pit-sawn planks make up the tables and convict thumb prints and broad arrow marks are visible in the brickwork. Among this historic ambience grab yourself a gourmet wood-fired pizza topped with roasted garlic, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, binji potatoes, bocconcini, parmesan and fresh rosemary, or feast on a freshly baked quiche and a tasty pile of niçoise salad.
