Tamar Valley Wine Route

Some 24 wineries hug the banks of the River Tamar, extending east out to Pipers Brook and Lilydale. Cool-climate varieties ripen well in northern Tasmania and the superb quality of the wines has much to do with the dry, warm autumn. White styles such as chardonnay, riesling and pinot gris are the standouts, with pinot noir holding up the reds. Take a self-guided driving tour by picking up a Tasmanian Wine Route brochure from a local visitor centre.
