Bayviews Restaurant and Lounge Bar
This groovy glass-enclosed space is part of Burnie’s new wave of restaurants and smart bars. It’s up on the first floor in an architecturally stunning pavilion (above Fish Frenzy, little sister to Hobart’s well-known wharfside fish and chippery), with fantastic views over Bass Strait during the day. But most of the action happens here at night, when the views take second place to the fabulous food. Tasmanian ingredients star on a varied menu, which might include standards like steaks, gourmet pizza and seafood platters, along with surprises like local periwinkles baked with spicy tomato relish and pecorino cheese. On a warm night, head out to the deck with the ‘bucket and seafood’ deal – drinks and oysters (or prawns) for four.
