Narcissus Hut (walk-in camping)
Narcissus is the last hut and camping area on the north–south route if you choose to take the ferry 13 km along Lake St Clair to the trailhead at Cynthia Bay. It sleeps 18 and is 9 km south of the Bert Nichols hut (allow 3 hr).
This campsite is located in Overland Track (Cynthia Bay)
The Overland Track is Australia’s most famous bushwalk. During the summer walking season, trekkers start at the Cradle Mountain end of the track and take around 6 days – longer depending on the weather and side tracks – to finish at Cynthia Bay at the southern end of Lake St Clair. The track leads through Tasmania’s alpine heart and although there are huts and an upgraded path, walkers must be reasonably fit and fully equipped with a gas/fuel stove and tent. They should also be prepared to sit out bad weather, which can occur in any season. Camping is at the huts along the track; each has tank water and gas or coal heaters, with fuel supplied and camping platforms nearby. Walkers must book departure dates in the peak season (Nov–Apr).
