Pieman River

The Pieman is a major river on Tasmania’s west coast that meets a number of beautiful, smaller rivers on its way out to the sea. From the small resort town of Corinna, it’s 18 kilometres downstream to the ocean. A few more kilometres downstream is the junction of the Savage River, where the SS Croydon shipwreck lies at the bottom of the water, apparently still holding valuable cargo of Huon pine in its hull. Another few kilometres downstream is the narrow Donaldson River, where you’ll find pebbly beaches. The Pieman River then enters the ocean at Hardwicke Bay. Note that this is a wild and rugged coast, so paddling here is entirely dependent on the weather conditions.
