A visit to the local pub is a good way to get to know a place, and at this lovely 1840s hotel the vibe is all about fantastic local food. The produce is all from ‘the coast’ and one look at the menu will have you entranced. Rich camembert crumbed and served with cranberry sauce, whole smoked trout with horseradish cream, barbecued octopus and salad stuffed into a French stick, organic chicken, handmade sausages and grass-fed beef are just some of the offerings. Potato selection and cooking is raised to a fine art here, with unbeatable wedges and the best mash you’ll ever encounter. Even the humble chicken schnitzel is given a makeover with a hazelnut lemon crust and lemon myrtle dressing.
