The beautiful 1903 Furners Hotel is one of those lavishly decorated Federation buildings with wide iron-lace verandahs, and spacious, high-ceilinged elegance inside. It’s the locals’ favourite for counter meals, with all the standard schnitzels and beer-battered options on the menu, but the standouts are their self-select steaks, chargrilled just how you want them over a wood fire. Add a cold beer and a salad from the self-serve counter for a better-than-usual pub meal. Don’t bypass dessert either, especially the very wicked biscuit-based caramel banoffi pie topped with strawberries and chantilly cream.
