Ulverstone was settled – as ‘The Leven’ – back in the 1840s, but 30 years later there were still only 25 people living there. Despite these slow beginnings, the lovely Winterbrook was established here in 1880 as a ‘gentlemen’s residence’ and its elegance remains in this B&B surrounded by mature English gardens. They have two rooms furnished in understated style, one with ensuite and the other with a private bathroom. The timber-panelled guest’s sitting room is perfect for spending an evening curled up with a book in front of the wood heater or enjoying a nightcap with friends.
