The Hothouse Cafe
Like the lifestyle on Bruny Island, this place is unpretentious, casual and relaxed. It overlooks the Neck beaches and from its vantage point there are panoramic views all the way to Mount Wellington. Grab a table under the sheltered pergola where you can take your pick from their well-priced menu of light meals, such as local grilled trevalla or owner Fiona Morrison’s steak and Guinness pie. There are local wines and, of course, Bruny Island’s plump fresh oysters on offer too. In winter Fiona makes superb fish soup and damper. They do all-day breakfasts and what they describe as ‘serious coffee’, and you’ll need to book ahead for dinner.
