The Red Velvet Lounge

Cygnet has become a foodie’s destination in the last few years and this is the place that started it. It’s part boutique food store, part funky eclectic cafe/restaurant, with a clientele of knowing gourmets, vegan hippies and ladies doing lunch. Their cakes have been described by Gourmet Traveller as ‘stunning’, and from their 1912 wood-fired oven they produce divine crusty breads. The menu changes weekly, with dishes to tempt the adventurous palate as well as the more conventional. Expect salmon cakes with garlic aioli, char sui-marinated tofu, or beef kofta and couscous laced with lively chilli harissa. In winter beef and red wine pot pie is a favourite, followed by baked apple with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice-cream. Bookings are required for dinner.
