Walk-in camping

Walk-in bush camping is allowed almost anywhere in the park, except close to roads, day-use areas or around Osborne and Esperance lakes and Ladies Tarn. You will need to be self-sufficient and bring your own drinking water and fuel stove as fires are not allowed. Walkers should carry warm protective clothing because the weather can turn dangerously cold with little warning, even in summer. To get there, head along the rough (and occasionally snow-covered) Hartz Rd from a signposted left turn off the Arve Rd, 15 km from its junction with the Huon Hwy west of Geeveston. A day-use picnic shelter, tables, gas barbecue, fireplace and toilet are near the Waratah Lookout track entrance.
