Maria Island National Park

This island has forests, fern gullies, fossil-studded cliffs, deserted beaches, safe swimming, convict and industrial ruins, and lots of wild animals. There are no cars or shops (except a visitor centre), so this is an interesting experience for the kids (and you)! Bring your own food and water (water is limited), and start exploring. Camping is available and there is some basic accommodation (book ahead through park ranger).
