Possum Shed Cafe
Restaurant/cafe
Beyond New Norfolk, where farms give way to forested wilderness, the little village of Westerway is a popular chips-and-coffee stop for travellers heading to and from Mount Field National Park. But this tiny cafe is a step up from the usual pie and chips takeaway, and is well worth the drive. It attracts both locals and travellers to its arty craft shop/dining area and outside deck perched over the swirling Tyenna River. Making the most of local suppliers, they have fantastic fresh salads, local berries and great coffee. The lemon-stuffed baby smoked salmon is a gorgeous light lunch, while the feta and spinach parcels are a favourite. Don’t forget to keep your eye on the river to spot a platypus or two.
