Possum Shed Cafe
Beyond New Norfolk, where farms give way to forested wilderness, the little village of Westerway is a popular chips-and-coffee stop for travellers heading to and from Mount Field National Park. But this tiny cafe is a step up from the usual pie and chips takeaway, and is well worth the drive. It attracts both locals and travellers to its arty craft shop/dining area and outside deck perched over the swirling Tyenna River. Making the most of local suppliers, they have delicious light meals, home-made cakes and scones and a range of sensational teas and coffees. Don’t forget to keep your eye on the river to spot a platypus or two.
1654 Gordon River Rd, Westerway; (03) 6288 1364; open Wed–Sun 9am–5pm in summer (Oct–Mar), Wed–Mon 9am–5pm in winter (Apr–Sept). Closed Good Friday, Anzac Day & Christmas Day.
