Port Arthur Caravan and Cabin Park
Campsite
Although this park is big, each spacious campsite is screened with shrubs so it feels sheltered and private. Visit Port Arthur Historic Site (1 km along the road, or take the walking track along Stewart’s Beach), then settle in by your fireplace while the kids and young-at-heart organise an all-in cricket match on the oval. If it’s warm there’s a safe swimming beach nearby, otherwise there’s a pretty walking track to Gardner’s Point, but keep an eye out for snakes. Take advantage of the camp kitchen if you don’t fancy cooking on your campfire, or frock up and head to one of Port Arthur’s restaurants for dinner. Turn into Garden Point Rd at the large sign on the Tasman Hwy (A9), 1 km north of the Historic Site turn-off.
For a nearby day walk, follow the B37 towards White Beach to the Cape Raoul trailhead, off Stormlea Road. This walk takes you out on to Cape Raoul, a spectacular peninsula of fractured dolerite columns towering over the sea below.
