You know you’re in for an elegant evening as you approach historic Prospect House via its little bridge and sweeping driveway. In Abbys’ three classical dining rooms, the tables are clad in white linen, lit by candlelight and warmed by open fires. With a reputation as one of Tasmania’s best fine-dining restaurants, the menu leans towards classic game, meat and seafood dishes, cooked to perfection and with touches of international flavour. Entrées include seared chilli garlic scallops with lemon risotto, while the beef eye fillet with soufflé potato and béarnaise sauce is an excellent choice. Wines selected from the extensive list are brought to your table from cellars which were once gaol cells for the 22 convicts who built the house in 1830.
