This coal-heated bushwalker hut sleeps 20 and is 16 km (6 hr) from the trailhead on the Lyell Hwy. There are tent sites across the bridge just past the hut. No fire allowed: gas/fuel stove-only area.

This campsite is located in Frenchmans Cap Track

The track to Frenchmans Cap is a challenging 4-day hike that’s best suited to experienced, fit bushwalkers, so the rest of us must settle for capturing glimpses of this prominent white peak from the highway. The trailhead and walker registration is on the Lyell Hwy (A10), 3 km west of the Franklin River Bridge. Note: sturdy, worn-in boots, a gas/fuel stove and large-scale maps are essential.
