The Freestone Creek Rd slices roughly north–south through Briagolong State Forest, and it’s off this thin thoroughfare that the majority of the forest’s campgrounds lie. The first one you reach when heading north from Briagolong is the Quarries, a favourite local swimming spot and the only camping area in the forest for which a fee is charged.

This campsite is located in Briagolong State Forest

Delightful Briagolong State Forest is 15 km north of the town of Stratford – which is on the Avon River, of course. It was once filled with excitable gold prospectors and is now a magnet for nature-struck bushwalkers and picnickers. Signposted off the tracks that squirm through the forest are numerous pleasant campsites. Take Briagolong Rd north from Stratford, which is on the Princes Hwy.
