Shipwreck Creek camping area
Shipwreck Creek only has 5 campsites, set in forest above an isolated cove. The flat ground here makes setting up camp a breeze. Take a walk along the ocean beach and gaze out towards Gabo Island. You can also follow the 3 km trail over to Seal Creek, which is decorated with rockpools. From nearby Mallacoota, take Betka Rd and then Centre Track.
How to book: bookings for Mueller Inlet and Thurra River camping areas necessary late Dec–Jan and Easter, through the Point Hicks Light Station office (03) 5158 4268; bookings for Peachtree Creek, Shipwreck Creek and Wingan Inlet camping areas by ballot at Christmas and Easter; Parks Victoria Mallacoota (03) 5161 9500, 13 1963
This campsite is located in Croajingolong National Park
Beautifully remote Croajingolong National Park stretches for 100 km along Victoria’s untamed south-eastern coastline. The only disturbance at the beaches here is the tide, and the glassy inlets provide superb canoeing. Walkers will enjoy seeing the waterbirds that thrive in the wetlands and the wildlife that roams in the soaring forests. You can reach the park from Mallacoota or via a number of tracks leading south of the Princes Hwy; check conditions after heavy rain.
