Jacksons Crossing camping area (bush camping)

4WD camper trailer canoeing dry weather access fishing hiking trails no pets allowed no rubbish disposal swimming vehicle-based camping

Access to this bush camping site, on the banks of the Snowy River, is via Varneys Track, off Yalmy Rd. A 4WD is needed to reach this isolated spot in the south of the park, although it’s also possible to get here by canoe. There are no facilities – don’t forget to bring drinking water. Jacksons Crossing contains some Aboriginal relics; it’s believed the Kruatungulung group of the Kurnai people used to hunt in the area.

This is a delightful camping area. It is a mostly cleared, grassy valley on the Snowy River, with a variety of potential bush camps along the banks of the river. The access via Varneys Track to the south involves a long 4WD crossing of the Snowy River, while access from the north, via the Tulloch Ard Road, includes some steep sections.
