Opposite Bendigo’s ornate GPO building, GPO Bendigo brings a touch of the city slicks to this historic part of town. The long narrow space, with its bare wooden tables, red banquettes and whitewashed walls, functions as bar, cafe and restaurant, depending on the time of day and your current mood. There are good pizza topped with artisan toppings, house-made pasta, tapas-style snacks and a good selection of flame-grilled meat dishes. A favourite of Bendigo’s younger set, GPO can get rowdy with cocktail swillers on weekends but it’s a happy noise that suits the casual approach.
