Guests at this B&B stay in the second-floor addition of an 1860s sandstone cottage, with a private entrance to the spacious upstairs rooms. If two couples are staying, the ensuite to the rooms is shared. Privacy and the sounds of silence are features as much as the kangaroos, which are regularly found poking about outside the cottage. Other assets are the extensive local walking and cycling tracks. The Hermitage is in a rural setting, a mix of farmland and bush, just 4 kilometres north of Castlemaine.
