This recreation area is sited between the original Waanyarra town site, where gold-rush miners set up their tents, and the cemetery. Over spring and summer, wildflowers will burst into colour here. To take a close look at old gold workings, follow the 3 km Wet Gully Walking Track, which begins 2 km south of Waanyarra.

This campsite is located in Dunolly State Forest

About 10 km north-east of Dunolly township is eucalypt-dominated Dunolly State Forest, centred on the remains of the one-time gold-rush town of Waanyarra. Drivers will enjoy the 4.2 km Waanyarra Forest Dr, which passes the old township site, its cemetery and Mortons Old Hotel; cyclists can tackle the 24 km Golden Triangle Bicycle Track.
