Ferntree is located in the centre of the park and has only 5 sites for campers, arrayed alongside the picnic ground. Take the short nature walk from here to the Ferntree Waterfalls, wander over to the Sugarloaf viewpoint, or take an enjoyably aimless drive around the western section of the park. You can also venture due east into Mt Cole State Forest.

This campsite is located in Mount Buangor State Park

About 20 km west of Beaufort, and reached via Ferntree Gully Rd from the Western Hwy, is 2500 ha Mt Buangor State Park. The mountain itself, decorated with snow gums, looms over the surrounding area. A web of walking tracks is strung between the park’s 2 camping areas, and more trails delve into neighbouring Mt Cole State Forest.

There are major projects underway to repair roads, walking tracks and visitor facilities in Buangor State Park, which were damaged by fire in 2010 and torrential rainfall and storms in 2011. Check with Parks Victoria regarding areas not open to visitors.
