With its imposing observation tower and sprawling, whitewashed Spanish-style buildings, Mitchelton is easy to find and hard to forget. The restaurant is located in an airy high-ceilinged room with a large open fireplace and banks of windows that take in the slow glide of the Goulburn River. Local ingredients are a feature on a menu that mainly lingers in Europe and the Middle East – lamb koftas, chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto – with the occasional venture further afield, as with an African-style eggplant curry. Mitchelton wines are a feature, including some styles and vintages unavailable elsewhere.
