Natimuk is part of the state's Wimmera region, and is popular for its proximity to Mt Arapiles, a 369-metre sandstone monolith that has been described as 'Victoria's Ayers Rock'. The mountain was first climbed by Major Mitchell in 1836, and today is a popular rock climbing destination with over 2000 marked climbing routes. Brigitte Muir, the first Australian woman to climb Mt Everest, trained here.
