Native Dog Flat, 45 km east of Benambra and at the southern end of the Snowy Mountains, is in one of the most remote and rugged regions of Alpine National Park. The local highpoint is Mt Cobberas, which is scaled by the Australian Alps Walking Track. A less difficult climb, but one that still leads to excellent views, is the Rams Horn Track to the south of the camping area. Native Dog Flat is off the Benambra–Black Mountain Rd.

This camping area is accessible to conventional vehicles, but would also make a great base to explore some of the many challenging 4WD tracks nearby, such as Davies High Plains to the north or the tracks to the east that head towards Suggan Buggan.
